JetBlue and Virgin America Add Elite Perks For Frequent Flyers

Low-cost carriers JetBlue and Virgin America each announced that they are adding perks for elite members of their frequent-flier programs.
Details of the changes are slightly different at each carrier, but the moves promise customers of the airlines amenities such as relaxed baggage allowances, access to priority security lanes and better seating options.
The frequent-flier revamp at JetBlue and Virgin America comes as the U.S. airline industry has increasingly looked for ways to increase revenue by segmenting the market. Airlines have been successful at driving revenue by adding fees, but many also have targeted the upper end of the market by offering “elite” perks as a way to retain their best – and most-profitable – customers.
