Airlines Are Moving Up in Sponsorships

Airline Trends reported in their November 2013 edition of the Airline Marketing Benchmark, Delta Airlines and Emirates have opened up VIP lounges in sports stadiums.Â
Since soccer has been such a favored sport across the world, these airlines have targeted this particular sport for sponsorships. Emirates just signed a five year sponsorship with Real Madrid for their shirts. Now they are raising the bar “literally” to VIP lounges.Â
At the end of September 2013, Emirates opened a ‘brand space’ VIP lounge at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium to mimic their Boeing 777. The lounge features on-board experience, global network, and promotional images. While Delta Air Lines has a 360Ëš lounge at London football club Chelsea that includes LED-lit runways, dining and a full service bar and is located in the attached Millennium & Copthorne Hotel at Stamford Bridge.
