DFW Gets First Airbus A380 Double Decker Visit Due to Thunderstorms Near IAH

Categories: Industry News | News

Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 – the largest passenger jet in the world – made its first appearance at Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW) on September 19th.  Rather than representing a new route flown by Lufthansa, the flight was diverted from Houston Intercontinental (IAH) due to thunderstorms in the area.

The Airbus A380-800 flown by Lufthansa is configured for 526 total passengers, including eight in first class and 98 in business. The remaining A380 coach passengers alone dwarf the entire passenger load for American Airlines’ largest aircraft 420 to 310.

The unexpected detour cost Lufthansa passengers and crew about two hours of lost time from their original itinerary, but provided DFW crew and spotters with their first up-close look at the A380 on North Texas soil.
