Imagine this: Would you trust a travel website to make the final decision on where you go on vacation in exchange for a steep discount on the flights?

That’s the premise of a new flight-booking website, GetGoing, that touts itself as the place “where flexible travel meets big savings,” with discounts of up to 40%.

I have to admit I initially shuddered at the prospect of a website making my vacation choices, but I got used to the idea as I tried it a few times, and saw the savings.

And keep in mind that GetGoing only picks your vacation destination from two choices you have preselected.

The idea behind GetGoing’s “Pick Two, Get One” technology is it assures participating airlines that you really are a flexible leisure traveler. They don’t want to hand out these discounts to business travelers who must fly and would normally pay higher fares.

GetGoing handles flights from 47 U.S. airports to about 50 countries. Here’s how it works:

You enter your departure airport; the region of the world you want to go or the type of vacation (adventure & outdoors, beaches & sun, or history & culture) you want; your travel dates, and the number of people traveling.
