Categories: Industry News | News
Southwest Airlines broke ground September 30th on their first international terminal. The terminal, located at Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), is projected to cost $156 million and take two years to complete.Â
The completion of the HOU terminal is expected to coincide with Southwest’s plans to expand into international travel in 2015 – for the first time in their 43 year history.
Southwest was joined in the groundbreaking by multiple dignitaries from the Houston area, including Houston Mayor Annise Parker who supported the project over heavy opposition from United Airlines. United operates a major hub at competing Houston airport George Bush Houston Intercontinental (IAH).
