Tips: Get the Seat You Want on Your Next Flight

You don’t have to pay extra because you would like to sit near a window or in an aisle seat anymore.  Although the airlines are reserving more seats for passengers willing to pay the extra $25 to sit next to their family, these tips can help you sit where you like for a fair fare:

1. Booking early definitely helps with seat designation. The earlier you book, the more open seats there are.
2. Visit the airlines website 5 days before departure. The “elite” flyers get upgraded to fist class then and again every 24 to 48 hours. Their original coach seats will then be made available.
3. For 99 cents, Expertflyer.com will alert you via email that an aisle or window seat is available. (it will alert you if an adjacent seat becomes available as well).
4. 24 hours before your flight, the airline will release previously held seats they had designated for passengers with disabilities or children that travel without a parent.
