Virgin America Among Airlines Making Humorous April Fools Announcements

Categories: Industry News | News

Virgin Companies, owner of Virgin America, was among several airline companies who managed to muster humor on April 1, despite industry woes.  The company announced Virgin Volcanic, which purports to provide passengers with a journey to the center of the earth.

Other airlines got in on the fun as well, with Spirit, the notoriously cost-conscious airline proposing new service from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to the moon.  The service is priced at a modest $9 lunar fare, but unfortunately also includes a $1.2 billion fuel surcharge.

WestJet announced Kargo Kids, a promotion where children will ride in a special VIP section of the plane’s cargo space and allow adults a child-free ride in the main cabin.

Even Southwest Airlines got in on the fun, suggesting plans to replace their signature peanuts with TOFUnuts.
